Modes of the BiOS-driven Adriatic Sea thermohaline variability

چکیده

In this study the impact of Adriatic-Ionian Bimodal Oscillating System (BiOS) on interannual to decadal variability Adriatic Sea thermohaline circulation is quantified during 1987–2017 period with numerical results and Coast (AdriSC) historical kilometer-scale climate simulation. The time series associated first five Empirical Orthogonal Functions (EOFs) computed from salinity, temperature current speed monthly detrended anomalies at 1-km resolution are correlated BiOS signal. First, it found that AdriSC model capable reproduce BiOS-driven phases derived in-situ observations along a long-term monitoring transect in middle Adriatic. Then, for entire basin, high correlations 2-year delayed signal obtained salinity two EOF 100 m depth sea-bottom. Finally, physical interpretation spatial patterns reveals bottom temperatures more influenced by dense water than BiOS. These findings confirmed generalized known dynamics previously observations, can thus be used better understand past future processes Sea.

Decadal Variability in Coupled Sea-Ice–Thermohaline Circulation Systems*

An interdecadal oscillation in a coupled ocean–ice system was identified in a previous study. This paper extends that study to further examine the stability of the oscillation and the sensitivity of its frequency to various parameters and forcing fields. Three models are used: (i) an analytical box model; (ii) a two-dimensional model for the ocean thermohaline circulation (THC) coupled to a the...

Carbon dioxide variability and air‐sea fluxes in the northern Adriatic Sea

[1] High‐frequency measurements of surface water partial pressure of CO2 (pCO2) in the Gulf of Trieste in the north Adriatic Sea, the most northern part of the Mediterranean, are presented. Sea surface pCO2 was measured at the coastal oceanographic buoy Vida (45° 32′ 55.68′′ N, 13° 33′ 1.89′′ E), using the Submersible Autonomous Moored Instrument for CO2 during four deployments from 2007 to 200...

the effect of taftan pozzolan on the compressive strength of concrete in the environmental conditions of oman sea (chabahar port)

cement is an essential ingredient in the concrete buildings. for production of cement considerable amount of fossil fuel and electrical energy is consumed. on the other hand for generating one tone of portland cement, nearly one ton of carbon dioxide is released. it shows that 7 percent of the total released carbon dioxide in the world relates to the cement industry. considering ecological issu...

Robustness of the modes of Indo‐Pacific sea level variability

Reliable projections of future sea level are vital for coastal communities. Regional deviations from global mean sea level rise are caused primarily by spatial patterns in the various components of sea level change (e.g. melting land ice, thermal expansion, and so on; see Slangen et al. 2012; Perrette et al. 2013; Church et al. 2013) and by wind anomalies associated for example with various cli...

The Effects of Thermohaline Circulation on Wind-Driven Circulation in the South China Sea

The dynamic influence of thermohaline circulation onwind-driven circulation in the SouthChina Sea (SCS) is studied using a simple reduced gravitymodel, in which the upwelling driven bymixing in the abyssal ocean is treated in terms of an upward pumping distributed at the base of the upper layer. Because of the strong upwelling of deep water, the cyclonic gyre in the northern SCS is weakened, bu...
